Latest NBA Trade Rumor Concerns Timberwolves' No. 2 Pick

Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn made it abundantly clear that he was not all that happy with the fact that his team landed the No. 2 pick in this year's NBA Draft. After all, they had a 25 percent chance of landing the top pick, and given the relative weakness of this year's draft crop, the top pick is that much more valuable.

Because of that, somebody was going to ask the question sooner or later: Are the Timberwolves better off trading the No. 2 pick?

As luck would have it, Sid Hartman of the Star Tribune got a chance to put that question to Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor.

Taylor's response:

I think it's most likely we'll keep [the pick] ... but we're open to look at a trade. But most likely we'll keep [the player who is drafted]. I just think when you get a pick that high, you would want to keep it for the future.

In all likelihood, the best option for the Timberwolves at No. 2 is probably going to be Arizona forward Derrick Williams, as Duke point guard Kyrie Irving is likely to go No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Because of Williams' significant talents, it makes sense that Kahn and the Timberwolves would just go ahead and pull the trigger.

Then again, forward is not exactly an area of need for Minnesota. Kevin Love was an All-Star this year, and Michael Beasley averaged nearly 20 points per game. Why add Williams when you don't have minutes to give him?

Either way, Taylor says the decision will ultimately come down to Kahn. Knowing Kahn, that means anything can happen.
